Trakor is probably more like a Vestax or something - considered quality by the users and has many more features, bells and whistles available, but isn't approaching serato in terms of general acceptance in the performing DJ's world (actual, perceived, or otherwise). Traktor 3 is still nothing more than a Traktor 2 tweak and the fact that they are portraying it as a major new version shows that they probably don't have a lot of new aspect coming. Using Traktor with non NI controllers still feels kinda clunky to me and the selection of NI controllers is just too limited. Feb 28, 2018 Yep I saw they have 'practice mode' basically stand alone mode that Traktor has had for years without the ability to MIDI map most of the controls like Traktor. What is nice is the fact that Serato DJ Pro support Hi DPI displays. I honestly wasn't so much impressed with Serato DJ Pro as much as I am disappointed in Traktor.

Make Traktor Pro More Like Serato Dj
I’m a complete beginner just looking at buying my first controller, and am torn between the s2 and DDJ SB. I think the software that I go with will pretty much make this decision for me, but after a few hours research I still can’t decide between Traktor and Serato. Which software would you recommend for a beginner? Cheers
I think your right to choose the software first.
I’d say Serato is more suited to you if you want a simpler interface that’s ready to use out of the box and spin hip hop or similar music. Download xfer serum vst full crack version. Traktor is more suited to someone who likes to get into the nitty gritty of the software and are mixing house or similar genres.
I use both but prefer Serato.
Serato is great because you can visually see your tracks side by side. This is helpful to me because I line things up with my eyes and ears.
Traktor is different in that you have to be more reliant on accurate beat grids and syncing (at least first), but the software (to me) is more sophisticated and more difficult to learn. I’ve just started to dive into Traktor and it is amazing. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably have went in that direction.
But ultimately it’s about the music not the software.
Hi Adam,
I had to go make the same decision a while ago. I made a list of pros and cons and this is what I came up with:
Traktor PROs
Accurate autogain (whereas in Serato it is hit-and-miss)
Gain control over each track while recording (in Serato the recorded signal bypasses the channel gain controls)
Intuitive loop control (a. loops are treated the same way as hotcues and are accessible using the same set of pads)
Accurate bpm detection/beatgrid algorithm (in Serato the bpm detection is hit-and-miss, which means you will have to edit the beatgrid)
High-quality FX, incl. the ever-handy Echo Freeze effect
Cuepoint comments
Quantized cuepoint jumping (whereas in Serato SmartSync disengages the moment you press a hotcue button)
Cuepoints and loops snapped to beatgrid (in Serato this is not the case)Serato PROS
Elastic beatgrids, good for non-quantized music
Chronologic cuepoints
Cuepoint color coding
Smart playlists!! Saves a lot of time when importing new music
Reloop functionality
Flip
Easy beatgrid edit modeIn the end, I stuck with Traktor on the basis of its superior implementation of some of the more fundamental features (autogain, sync, snap, loops). However, you need to be able to live without the smart playlists, which is a real pain in the *ss. And elastic beatgrids is really nice to have too, though not having it forces you to work on your manual beatmatching skills, which is not a bad thing.
Good luck.
That Pro/Con list is a bit outdated as Serato has caught up or surpassed Traktor in the following:
– intuitive loop control with one button loop rolls
– Cuepoint color coding
– iZotope studio quality effects
– Quantize mode so you can forget the old SmartSync feature and cuejumping will be spot on
– Quantize mode will snap everything to the beatgrid (cue, loop, loop roll, slicer, flip,…)
– The BMP detection is now spot on (I do check everything with MixedInKey for reference)As a con for Traktor:
Works best with Native Instruments hardware only = less controllers to choose from
A con for Serato:
You have to have Serato licensed controllers to make it work (but there are lots from many different vendors)And you can always give Mixvibes Cross a spin. Two week free fully functional trial, support for many controllers and sound cards (no need for certified/licensed stuff) and an active community helpful in making mappings for new or not yet supported controllers. Mapping is very simple (click and learn system).
If you like it and you don’t need DVS, video and HID for CDJ support, you pay 49 bucks for the full version, including updates.
It’s way more like Serato than it is like Traktor. Been using it for over two years now and sticking with it (even though I own a full copy of Serato and a controller that is supported).
Just saying 😀
